Project Overview

The Florida Academic Library Services Cooperative (FALSC) is deploying a new library system to replace our current system. This system supports many essential library services, including acquisition, cataloging, circulation, interlibrary loan, reserves, serials, and a public interface.

A phased implementation is planned with final go-live in July of 2018.

The overall system is called Sierra Encore Duet. It includes components from two companies, Innovative Interfaces, Inc (III) and EBSCO. III is the lead vendor. FALSC is planning on branding the user interface search box before first release. Main components include:

  • Sierra is the underlying integrated library system used by library staff to manage purchasing, checkouts, patron records, and other "back room" functions. It is provided by III.
  • Encore Duet is the name of the discovery tool. It is used by patrons to find materials available from the library. It is the equivalent of the old fashioned "library catalog". It is also provided by III.
  • EBSCO Mega Index is the electronic resource index file. This is also called EDS in some documents, which is confusing because EBSCO also sells a product called EDS (EBSCO Discovery Service) that we are not using. Provide by EBSCO.
  • Full Text Finder is the link resolver, also provided by EBSCO. It provides a path from Encore Duet to specific articles in different databases.
  • Publication Finder is an end user tool used to browse electronic journals. Also provided by EBSCO.

The corresponding components of our current system are:

  • Ex Libris - vendor
  • Aleph - underlying integrated library system
  • Mango - discovery tool
  • ProQuest Central Index (PCI) is the electronic resource index file.
  • SFX - link resolver
  • A-Z Journals - publication finder

This is one of the largest library integration projects in the country. The system contains:

  • 14,000,000 bibliographic records
  • 24,000,000 item records
  • 2,800,000 patron records
  • 8,000,000 holding records
