Textbook and Course Reserves

BC and FAU faculty may place materials on reserve in their local library for student use. This includes personal or departmental books and articles, library owned materials, and multimedia items.

Loan Periods by Campus

Reserve materials are assigned one of the following check-out loan periods set by the department. Instructors may choose from the following: 

  • One (1) hour
  • Three (3) hours
  • Overnight Use
  • Three (3) days
  • Seven (7) days
  • Semester (for Honors Lending Library materials)

Reserve materials are assigned one of the following check-out loan periods set by the department. Instructors may choose from the following: 

  • Textbooks: two (2) hours
  • Student laptops: two (2) hours
  • Headphones: four (4) hours
  • Faculty laptops: seven (7) days
  • Education and some nursing prep materials: seven (7) days
  • Calculators: Semester 

Textbook reserve material can be checked out for two hours, in library use only. A student will need 2 forms of ID to sign out a textbook (Student ID card, Driver's License, library card, etc.).

Fines and Fees (Central Campus Only)

Borrowed materials must be returned to the campus where you checked it out. Please pay attention to the due dates and times to avoid incurring fines and charges. Fines for overdue textbook reserves are as follows:

  • Hourly Item:  $5.00 per hour
  • Daily Item:     $5.00 per day

Please note:

3-hour loan materials that are returned and billed as lost will be charged the replacement cost

Lost Textbook Reserves

Lost course reserve material will incur the following fees:

  • Lost library owned books: $66.35
  • DVD/Video: $91.00
  • Other lost materials (including bookstore owned materials): replacement cost

Damaged Materials

The library reserves the right to assess the condition of all returned library materials. Damage fees may vary, depending on the extent of damage, up to the full cost of the item. All lost, rebound, damaged items include a $6.00 non-refundable processing charge.

Materials Returned to a Different Campus

Textbook reserve material that is returned to another campus should be transferred via pony immediately to the original campus by an authorized library staff member and remain checked out to the student. Once received, an authorized staff member can assess the appropriate fines for the material if necessary.
