Avoiding Plagiarism

Why?

Why you would paraphrase:

  • You want to use your own words to restate the author's original thought and meaning
  • You want to use your own words, but also include a sequence of words or a brief quote from the original

Example:

Original- Fake news is certainly not a new phenomenon. It was existing ever since the invention of the printing press in the 15th century, be it for propaganda or other profit but making money from fake news was not possible.

Paraphrase in a paper- Fake news has been around since the era of printing presses, but it was not until the era of the Internet that publishing fake news and gaining an audience could be monetized.
