Research Tips

  • Make sure your written assignments have an introduction, supporting evidence in the middle, and a conclusion. Begin with an outline to plan out the order of your paper.
  • Use keywords rather than whole sentences when researching scholarly education articles. For example, use terms such as "Howard Gardner and multiple intelligences" or "educational software and product review".
  • The date of publication is important when seeking information on current topics in education. The standard date range for books and articles is approximately 3 to 5 years from the date of publication. The exception is when historical background on your topic is significant to your assignment, in which case it is okay to use sources older than 5 years. If your topic is very specific, consult with your professor when considering older sources.
  • Citing your sources is just as important as the assignment you are submitting. All sources used to complete your assignment must be documented on a separate page called Reference List or simply, References.
  • Carry a USB or flash drive with you at all times in case you need to save your work or any articles you may locate during your research.
