The University/College Library welcomes faculty participation in collection development. The Collection Development Librarian, Michelle Apps, solicits purchase requests from faculty through each department’s designated Library Liaison. Faculty input is important in order to properly expand and improve the library’s growing collection. UCL will purchase materials that conform to the Collection Development Policy, a copy of which can be viewed by clicking on the policies tab.
There are two ways for faculty to request the purchase of materials:
Approval Slips – slips for new titles are distributed to each department’s Library Liaison. The Library Liaison will then distribute slips within the department. Faculty should simply sign their name to any slip that they wish the library to consider for purchase and return it to their Library Liaison for initialing. The Library Liaison will return the slips to the library. One copy of the slip could be kept for your records.
Request Forms – these forms are for materials faculty have located and would like to have the library consider for purchase. Please fill out the form as completely as possible. Forms are available online, from the department’s Library Liaison, or by contacting Michelle Apps. Please make sure that your name is clearly printed in the Requester space. The Library Liaison will initial the request form and forward it to the library. If the items being requested were from a publisher’s catalog or a journal review, it is not necessary to complete an order form; simply follow the steps for signing and initialing the form.
Please note that the UCL Collection Development Policy for ordering library materials states that the department’s Library Liaison must initial faculty requests or they will be returned.
In order to know the status of materials that have been ordered, faculty can check on the UCL web page under Finding Books. The UCL catalog can be searched by author, title, or subject.
While requests for orders may be submitted year round, the bulk of the selection takes place during the fall semester. If you have any questions, or want more information, please call Michelle Apps, at (954) 201-6330 or email her at mapps@broward.edu.
