You Can Do It!

Use this guide to learn how to research and cite sources for your course.

Unit 4 Overview of Criticism

Collect five academic sources which discuss and interpret the Alice novel.  The goal is to get a general sense of what other scholars say about the novel and its meaning. Your Final Literary Analysis paper will require a more detailed search that focuses on the stories or poems you choose from the course.

The Overview of Criticism needs to have five sources with five to eight sentences per annotation.  The critical summary needs to be about a page.  Everything must conform to MLA guidelines.

The Novel: Final Paper Purpose (Due in Unit 8)

Final Paper Instructions

  • Choose one or two stories/poems from the "Reading Assignments" section in each unit. (You're only using one or two TOTAL stories/poems for this paper).  You may choose your stories/poems from different units.
  • You must to use 3-5 sources from a library database and NOT including your stories/poems.  Then, write a 6-10 page literary analysis which has a clear thesis and explicates the meaning of your stories/poems.  This is NOT a report.  You are a literary scholar, and you are making an argument about the meaning of your texts.  You do not need to choose a literary theory to use in the paper - no one is only one kind of theorist.  Instead, use the theories that most closely align with your own way of reading.
  • The submission must follow all MLA style guidelines, including formatting, in-text citations, and works cited entries.
