Essay 2: Cause & Effect Essay

 

In this 5-paragraph essay you will discuss the cause(s) or effect(s) of something. How does one thing, action, or person affect another? What is / are the effect(s) as a result of the initial action(s)?

Topic choices include:

  • Texting While Driving,

  • Eating Poorly and Avoiding Exercise,

  • The Hazards of Smoking,

  • The Effects of Music on the Human Body,

  • What Causes a Tsunami?

The essay MUST be written in MLA format (write in Times New Roman, 12-point font, double space, header, heading, center the title, indent the paragraph). Research is required for this essay. Provide 1 source in the text of the essay and on the Works Cited page. (Review pp. 71 – 73 & pp. 212 - 215 in your textbook).

The essay must be written from the third person point of view. Do NOT use I, us, we, our, myself or such pronouns; rather, use pronouns like he, she, them, their, it, they or nouns like, people, communities, society, etc. Do NOT use "you" or "your" or any other second person pronouns.

This essay must have a hook, an introduction, and a thesis statement at the end of the introduction. The 3 body paragraphs should explain the how to achieve the task. The fifth paragraph is the conclusion.

Plagiarized work will receive a failing grade.

Essay 3: Extended Definition Essay

 

In this 3-paragraph essay, you will clearly define a word, phrase, idea, theory, a person, an organization, or a brand. The choice of topic is yours, but you must define one of the things or people mentioned in sentence 1.

To begin, make sure you have a clever hook followed by interesting information that leads to the thesis at the end of the introduction. The thesis should be the definition. The second paragraph should provide extended information such as examples or deeper explanations that make the definition more understandable for your readers.
