Integrating Information Literacy Into Your Courses

Ways Librarians can Assist with Incorporating Information Literacy into your Course

Library Instruction Sessions

A library instruction session is but one step. Our librarians can customize an instruction session that lasts 45 minutes to an hour and provides your students with an overview of how to use library resources. Librarians and discipline faculty collaborate before the session on a lesson plan that will address the goals of your assignment.

Embedded Librarian

Consider embedding a librarian into your D2L course shell to let students connect directly with a librarian. Librarians can offer virtual office hours, create and monitor discussion threads about research skills and finding academic sources for research and more. The online librarian role in D2L enables:

  • communication with students via discussion, pager, chat, email
  • access to view current assignments and rubrics
  • access to view the class roster

LibGuides

The Faculty Librarians have created hundreds of online guides to support students' research and information needs. The guides can be customized for:

  • research topics or essay styles
  • resource formats, i.e. scholarly articles vs. magazine articles
  • courses
  • programs or subjects

When requesting an information literacy session, be sure to request a customized libguide

Integrate Library Resources Into D2L

Consider integrating library resources into your D2L shell. You can embed video tutorials on research skills, upload handouts on library resources, embed a database search widget and more!
