Definition

“A set of beliefs and rites, African in origin but closely interwoven with practices borrowed from the Roman Catholic Church…the religion of Haiti (New Catholic Encyclopedia). The religion involves worship of a Supreme Being and spirits. The follower often sacrifices food and drink to the spirits and may be possessed by them. Voodoo teaches that radical change is harmful, thus supporting the existing conditions.” (Peoples of the World: Latin Americans)
